Custom Straw Hat Manufacturer
Hongyuecap is a custom straw hat manufacturer producing woven and paper-straw programs for resort, retail and promotional buyers. We export to 32 countries, work from a minimum order quantity of 10 pcs, and hold monthly capacity of 500,000 pcs.
Straw programs are driven by weave, fibre and finish rather than by decoration. Sampling takes 3–15 days and bulk production runs 3–50 days, with the confirmed schedule issued in writing after sample approval.

Product directions
Straw Hat Directions for Wholesale and Private-Label Programs
Use the target market and wearing occasion to define the starting silhouette. Final feasibility depends on the selected material, structure, decoration and packing method.
Materials and construction
Specify the Material, Crown and Brim as One Construction
Natural raffia, paper straw, wheat straw and Toyo-style materials can create different hand feel, color variation and shape behavior. The material should be reviewed together with the intended crown, brim and finish rather than selected as an isolated line item.
| Field | What the buyer should provide or approve |
|---|---|
| Material direction | Material type or reference sample, hand feel and acceptable natural variation. |
| Crown | Profile, height direction, crease or flat-top construction. |
| Brim | Width, shape, edge finish and target stiffness direction. |
| Fit | Target finished size or size range, sweatband and adjustment requirement. |
| Color | Physical swatch, approved sample or agreed color reference. |
| Packing | Nesting, internal support, carton presentation and destination market. |
Branding and trim
Build Branding Around the Straw Structure
Decoration should be checked on the selected material because weave, surface texture and crown shape affect attachment, alignment and appearance.
Sampling brief
What to Confirm Before Straw Hat Sampling
- Target market, wearing occasion and delivery destination
- Reference style or intended crown and brim direction
- Material, color reference and acceptable surface variation
- Logo artwork, trim, label and placement requirements
- Target quantity and color breakdown for feasibility review
- Packaging presentation and shape-protection expectations

Quality control
Straw Hat QC Follows the Approved Shape and Specification
| Production check | Review point |
|---|---|
| Material consistency | Direction, weave or finish condition, color variation and approved sample standard. |
| Crown and brim | Profile, width, edge finish, visible shape consistency and handling sensitivity. |
| Band, trim and logo | Attachment, placement, alignment and visible workmanship. |
| Fit components | Finished size direction, sweatband, label and adjustment details where applicable. |
| Final inspection | Visible condition, shape, decoration, labeling, quantity and pack-out presentation. |
Protective packing
Plan Shape Protection After the Final Structure Is Approved
Straw hats can respond differently to pressure, moisture and handling. Nesting, internal support, carton support and final presentation should therefore be confirmed after the material and structure are approved. The quotation and sales agreement should state the agreed packing method, commercial terms and delivery requirements for the specific order.

Straw Material and Weave Decisions
Straw programs are decided at the material, not at the trim. The weave sets the hand, the stiffness, the breathability and how the hat holds its shape after a season in a shop or a suitcase. Agree the material direction before any shape is drawn.
| Material direction | What it changes | What to confirm on the sample |
|---|---|---|
| Paper straw | Uniform colour, even weave and a lower unit cost; reads clean and takes banding well, but is less forgiving of moisture. | Weave evenness, surface uniformity, and whether the brim keeps its line after handling. |
| Natural straw | Visible fibre variation and a warmer hand; each piece carries slight tonal difference, which is a feature for resort programmes and a problem for tight colour matching. | Acceptable variation range against the approved reference, and how the fibre behaves on the brim edge. |
| Blended and synthetic straw | Higher consistency and better resistance to creasing; hand-feel is firmer and the surface reads more uniform. | Hand-feel against a natural reference, stiffness of the brim, and heat tolerance for transit. |
| Weave tightness | Tighter weaves hold shape and block sun more effectively; looser weaves are lighter and more breathable, and crease more easily. | Density across the crown, whether light passes through, and how the weave responds when pressed. |
Blocking, Brim Control and Shape Retention
Shape is the part of a straw hat that fails first in transit and in store. Decide how the shape is held, not just what the shape looks like.
- Blocking direction. How the crown is formed determines whether it keeps its line or relaxes after a few weeks. Confirm the crown profile on the finished piece, measured rather than described.
- Brim structure. A wired edge holds a pronounced curve; a board or bonded edge keeps a flatter, cleaner line. Confirm which one the approved shape depends on, because substituting one for the other changes the silhouette.
- Edge finishing. Bound, turned or raw edges behave differently in wear and in packing. Confirm the finish and how the edge sits against the brim face.
- Humidity exposure. Straw responds to moisture in transit. If the destination is humid, confirm whether internal support is needed and how the hat is protected inside the carton.
Bands, Trims and Branding on Straw
Decoration on straw is constrained by the surface. A design that works on a cotton cap does not automatically transfer, and the sample is where that becomes visible.
- Band construction. Ribbon, woven tape or self-fabric bands each sit differently on the crown and change the visual proportion. Confirm band height and how the join is hidden.
- Embroidery limits. Dense embroidery can distort a straw surface or pull the weave. Confirm the maximum practical density and whether a backing is required for the approved position.
- Patches and metal trims. Confirm attachment method, weight and whether the fixing point is reinforced, since a heavy trim on a light weave will distort the crown over time.
- Labels. Confirm label type, position, orientation and whether the wording matches the material actually used, which matters for care instructions.
Packing Straw Hats Without Losing the Shape
Packing decisions for straw are shape decisions. A programme that arrives creased has failed regardless of how good the sample was.
- Nesting versus individual packing. Nested hats reduce freight volume but load the brim; individual packing protects shape at a higher carton cost. Confirm which trade-off the programme can carry.
- Internal support. Crown support or brim protection may be required for pronounced shapes. Confirm the support type and whether it stays in place through handling.
- Carton strength and stacking. Confirm units per carton, carton dimensions and stacking limit, then check the figure against how the goods will actually be handled.
- Moisture protection. Confirm whether a desiccant or an inner liner is needed for humid destinations, and how the carton is marked.
Straw Hat Sample Approval Checklist
Approve the sample against measurements and handling behaviour, so the bulk order can be inspected against the same reference.
- Crown height, brim width and total length, measured on the finished piece.
- Weave density and evenness across crown and brim, compared against the approved material.
- Brim line and curve after the hat has been handled, not only as it arrives.
- Colour against the approved reference in daylight, including the acceptable variation range for natural fibre.
- Band height, join position and trim attachment.
- Decoration position, density and whether the surface distorts around it.
- Packing format, internal support and carton configuration, checked with the sample packed as it will ship.
Once those points are signed off, the sample becomes the inspection reference. Anything not measured on the sample cannot be checked on the order.
